HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Alabama A&M softball team will travel to Jackson, Mississippi this weekend to face off against Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent Jackson State for the first time this season. The series is set to start on Friday, with first pitch set for 5 p.m. at the JSU Softball Field.
 
The Bulldogs have performed well from the plate this season, leading the SWAC in home runs (26), runs per game (5.73), and slugging percentage (.475). The team also finds themselves second in doubles per game (1.12), along with third in batting average (.298) and fielding percentage (.940). A&M is coming off a tough midweek loss out of conference to North Alabama on Tuesday, 3-1, however swept Mississippi Valley State in their last SWAC weekend series at home. The Bulldogs and Tigers met for a home-and-home series during the 2022 season, with JSU taking four of the six games between the programs. The matchup this weekend will be crucial for the conference ranks, as the two sides are separated by just one game in league standings.
 
Jackson State (15-17, 4-5 SWAC) currently holds top five ranks in the conference in both hitting and pitching, landing fifth in team batting average at .263 and fourth in pitching ERA at 4.25. They went 1-2 this past weekend against Bethune-Cookman on the road. The Tigers have played well at home, with a 10-3 record in Jackson so far this season.
 
After the opening meeting on Friday, the two programs will continue the series on Saturday and Sunday both at 1 p.m. with all three games at the JSU Softball Field.
