HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Following consecutive meets held by a pair of Southeastern Conference programs to open the outdoor season, Alabama A&M track & field is set to compete in the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Relays March 31 – April 1 at the Charles M. Ruter Track and Field Complex in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
The Bulldogs look to carry some positive momentum into the meet after a successful trip last weekend at the Ole Miss Classic.
The 4x400 teams on the men's and women's side both claimed wins in their respective events last weekend in Oxford. The men's group included
Keyshawn Johnson,
Talil Atkins,
Kody Pugh, and
Shawn Guerrier, while the women's group included
Olivia Andrews,
Laila Gaynor,
Victoya Smith and
Ajanae Cressey.
A&M also had three top-10 finishers in the men's 400-meter event, with Atkins taking third (47.76), followed by Pugh (48.95) and Johnson (48.96) who finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Smith led the way for the Bulldogs in the women's 200-meter taking fourth with a time of 24.68, while Gaynor (24.69) and Andrews (25.28) earned fifth and sixth-place finishes.
Ta'Nya Burnett performed well in the field and jump events, taking sixth in triple jump at a 11.49 distance, and seventh in long jump at 5.36 meters.
Brandon McLaren also had a strong weekend at Ole Miss, taking home second in the men's javelin throw at 61.57 meters.
Field events will kickstart competition on Friday with the men's hammer throw, women's shot put and long jump, set to begin at 11 a.m. CT. The 400m dash will begin the running events Friday at 1:30 p.m. CT.
