BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ^__ The Southwestern Athletic Conference has tabbed Alabama A&M infielder Venice Sanders as the SWAC Softball Hitter of the Week for her outstanding play during this past week of non-conference action.
 
Sanders had an impressive week going 5-for-6 from the plate against Oakwood, along with scoring three runs and driving home two RBI. On Friday, she went a combined 3-for-6 at the plate, scored two runs and earned an RBI, followed by a 5-for-7 day at the plate in day two. Overall, she accounted for 12 hits in 16 plate appearances with eight runs, five RBI, and two home runs for the week.
 
The Birmingham native is off to a terrific start on the year, currently fourth in the nation in triples (4), sixth in batting average (.540), and ninth in slugging percentage. She is also 17th in both on base percentage (.596) and RBI per game (1.31).
