NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Alabama A&M women's tennis team advanced to the SWAC Tennis Tournament semifinals after a 4-3 win over Prairie View A&M on Friday to start weekend action.
The Bulldogs opened the match dropping the doubles point. The pairing of 
Yana Dhamija and 
Jasmine Boyd fell 6-3 on court one, before 
Neha Ghare and 
Alicia Owegi took a 6-4 win on court three to tie the score. Meanwhile, 
Camila Ruiz Diaz and 
Ariadna Ondo Cerezo followed it up by dropping the final pairing of doubles play by a score of 6-4 on court two to give the point to the Panthers.
Alabama A&M recovered in singles play, as Boyd took a 6-2, 7-5 win on court one, followed by a 6-0, 6-1 win by Owegi on court six.
Prairie View A&M answered with a win at the No. 2 spot as 
Deja Brown fell 6-1, 6-0, before Ruiz Diaz followed it up with a three-set loss (6-1, 1-6, 5-7) at the No. 3 spot.
 
The Bulldogs took the No. 5 spot after a 7-6, 7-5 win from Dhamija, before a three-set win by Ghare at No. 4 to secure the match.
 
Alabama A&M will now move on to the semifinal round of the tournament to face top-seed Florida A&M on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the City Park Tennis Center.
