Trio of Bulldogs Earn All-SWAC Postseason Softball Honors

GULFPORT, Miss. – The Alabama A&M softball team landed three Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) All-Conference selections, as announced by the league office on Monday evening. Infielders Serena Herbranson and Venice Sanders both earned first-team honors, while Zahria Jones earned second-team honors.

Sanders, the First-Team first baseman, was near the top of the conference in multiple statistical categories all season long, highlighted by her league leading 50 runs batted in, 1.424 on-base percentage, and .910 slugging percentage. The senior's 56 hits were the most hits by a single player since the 2018 season, which landed her in second in the SWAC along with scoring 34 runs and hitting 11 homers to also lead the program. The Birmingham native was an essential piece to the team's success this season as she tallied 18 multi-hit games and 12 games with multiple RBIs, while maintaining the second-highest batting average on the year at .425.

Herbranson also earned First-Team honors as she was a crucial offensive and defensive cog for Alabama A&M this year. The third baseman finished seventh in the conference in batting average at .389, while recording 44 hits, 22 runs batted in and 10 doubles. The junior piece to the Bulldogs' offensive efforts this past season. The senior led the conference in a number of statistical categories, including batting average, recorded a hit in 28 games, including 13 multi-hit outings and a trio of multi-RBI games. In the field, Herbranson accounted for 50 putouts and 75 assisted outs on 132 chances, good for a .947 fielding percentage.

In her first season on the field, Jones became one of the Bulldogs' primary offensive weapons at her designated player spot. The Second-Teamer and Huntsville native finished third in the conference and second on the team with nine home runs, along with maintaining a .346 batting average and driving in 36 runs, good for fifth in the SWAC.
