Jared Tribett were named to the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Baseball Preseason Second Teams on Thursday, the conference announced.
Martin finished second on the team in batting last season with a .288 average. He played in 46 games, registering 44 hits, including a team-high 13 doubles, two homers and one triple. The Houston, Texas native drove in 29 and scored 20. On the base paths, Martin was 6-of-9 in the stolen base department.
Tribett played in 38 games last season and batted .239 for the Bulldogs. He finished with 27 hits, including eight home runs, seven doubles and one triple. The Lumberton, Miss. native registered 31 RBI and 21 runs scored, and went 5-of-6 in stolen-base attempts.
Grambling State's Cameron Bufford was tabbed the SWAC's Preseason Player of the Year and Bethune-Cookman's Daniel Gaviria earned the SWAC"s Pitcher of the Year honor.
Alabama A&M receiving one first-place vote and 35 points as the Bulldogs were chosen fifth in the SWAC's Predicted Order of Finish.
Alabama State, with seven first-place votes, was selected to win the SWAC East Division with 74 points. Bethune-Cookman (63 points), Florida A&M (61 points) and Jackson State (46 points) were chosen second through fourth, respectively. Mississippi Valley State, with 15 points, was selected sixth.
Grambling State, with seven first-place votes and 79 points, was chosen to win the SWAC West Division. Prairie View A&M (67 points), Southern (56 points), Texas Southern (55 points), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (46 points) and Alcorn State (33 points) rounded out the division.
Alabama A&M begins the season on Friday, Feb. 16 with a three-game non-conference series at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. First pitch for the series opener is set for 2 p.m. from the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.
