ORLANDO, Fla. | The Alabama A&M University women's bowling team wrapped up play in the Destination Orlando Invitational by recording seven wins and finishing 19
th at SKY Lanes.
The Bulldogs competed on Saturday in traditional matches against Saint Anselm, No. 18 UAB, No. 11 Sacred Heart, Florida A&M and No. 1 Jacksonville State.
In the opening match, AAMU rolled to a 790-779 win over Saint Anselm, but dropped its next match, falling 875-839 to No. 18 UAB. Alabama A&M fell to No. 11 Sacred Heart, 913-903, but bounced back with an 872-835 victory over Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) foe Florida A&M. However, top-ranked Jacksonville State defeated the Bulldogs, 951-804, to complete traditional matches during Day 2 of the tournament.
Alexis Orchard finished 48
th with a 179.6 average, while
Rose Ugbinada finished 50th with a 178.6 average for the Bulldogs' two highest contenders. Orchard bowled a 221 for the highest game from a Bulldog.
On Sunday, the Bulldogs competed against No. 12 Duquesne, Alabama State and Texas Southern.
There was one more baker game left as AAMU defeated Duquesne, 897-865. In the best-of-seven baker rounds, Alabama A&M fell to rival Alabama State, 4-2 but rounded out the day with a 4-1 victory over Texas Southern.
The Bulldogs continue their tournament stretch at the Windy City Classic in Chicago, Ill., Oct. 31-Nov. 2 at the Bowl America Southwest Lanes.
