THE HILL | The Alabama A&M University women's tennis team took to the courts on Friday and Saturday as the Bulldogs competed in the annual Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Fall Women's Tennis Tournament, held at the AAMU Tennis Courts.
In singles play, Gabrille Henderson and
Sofia Sotelo Raya competed.
In the Round of 16, Henderson fell to Alabama State's Kesmat El Tawil, 6-3, 6-1, while Raya advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory over Zahara El-Zien, of Bethune-Cookman. However, in the quarters, Raya fell to Alabama State's Diana Craciun, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles play, the team of
Alicia Owegi and Tstisti Mahere fell to Jackson State's Victoria Linkovski and Helen Hernandez, 8-5.
Jackson State's Paula Corbalan won the singles crown, while Alabama State's Melisa Mekic and Craciun claimed the doubles title.
Alabama A&M closes out its fall season Oct. 13-17 at the ITA Regionals, held at Auburn University.
