BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University senior guard Rakiyah Beal was selected the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Basketball Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
 
Beal tied a career high with 12 points in Alabama A&M's loss last week to Minnesota. She played just over 34 minutes and was 5-for-11 shooting, with a pair of 3-pointers in the road loss.
 
Texas Southern's Daeja Holmes was named the SWAC's Player of the Week, while Grambling State's Shaniah Nunn earned Impact Player of the Week honors.
 
Alabama A&M returns to action tonight (Dec. 17) as the Bulldogs play host to North Alabama. Tip-off against the Lions during Ugly Sweater Night is set for 6 p.m. from the AAMU Event Center and streamed on SWAC TV.
