BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University distance runner
Bravin Kibitok was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday.
Kibitok, who already owns the school record in the 3000 meters, broke another school mark last weekend at the UAB Green & Gold Invite. He ran 4:23.14 in the 1 mile, breaking a mark previously held by Hilary Kipchonge, who set the record in 2020.
Alabama State's Jamarion Stubbs was tabbed the SWAC's Track Performer of the Week, while Caleb Snowden, of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, received the Field Performer of the Week.
Alabama A&M closes its indoor slate Feb. 23-24 at the SWAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex.
