Box Score 4 JACKSON, Miss. | For the first time since the 2015 season, the Alabama A&M university softball team started their spring slate undefeated after going 4-0 in the River City Classic.
The Bulldogs opened the weekend defeating the only non-NCAA Division I team in the tournament, Arlington Baptist, 17-6 in a matinee game on Friday.
The Maroon and White faced Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent Alcorn State in their first contest of the second day, defeating the Braves 10-1. Seven Bulldogs scored in the game, paced by three runs from senior Allyson Riches. The Braves' lone run came in the 4th inning, but AAMU saw three more in the same inning to secure the second victory of the weekend.
In the night cap against SWAC foe Grambling State, the Tigers jetted to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Alabama A&M more than recovered, scoring 13 runs in the top of the second inning to take control of the contest, 13-5. After neither team scored any runs in the third, the Tigers scored their final run of the morning in the bottom of the fourth. AAMU picked up three more runs to solidify the 17-6 victory to round out the second day of play.
Sunday's game against GSU started similarly to the night before, with the Tigers taking a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs scored their first run of the morning in the fourth inning, but the contest went stagnant for the next two frames. The seventh inning saw three runs scored to garner the slim 4-3 victory and complete an undefeated opening weekend.Â

The Bulldogs travel to the Peach State to participate in the second annual Leonard Moody HBCU Collegiate Invitational over Valentine's Day weekend. AAMU is set to face South Carolina State, Fort Valley State, Maryland Eastern Shore, Coppin State and North Carolina A&T State over three days. Â
