SAN ANTONIO | Seniors Alisha Wilson and Lauryn Pendleton were selected to participate in the inaugural women's HBCU All-Stars Game, to be held April 6th at Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio Texas.
The HBCU All-Star game features the nation's top HBCU basketball players from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), Central Intercollegiate Athlete Association (CIAA), Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), along with Tennessee State, Hampton, and North Carolina A&T State Universities.
Wilson earned All-SWAC First team honors after earning her 1000th career point and career rebound this season. She averaged 11.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and led the Bulldogs in both blocks and steals, with 28 and 70 respectively. Wilson was second in the SWAC in rebounding and recorded 12 double-doubles this season.
Pendleton, in her first year in the SWAC, led the Bulldogs and the conference in free throw percentage. She averaged 12 points this season and amassed nearly 350 points, earning her 1300th career point.
The HBCU All-Star game will be a double-header played at Freeman Coliseum on Sunday, April 6, and will highlight 24 women and 24 men - in the fourth annual edition of the HBCU All-Star game- from the watch list. The women's contest will take the headliner spot, playing at 2:30, following the men's competition at 12:30.
HBCU All-Star Games have been hosted in New Orleans, Houston, and Phoenix with two back-to-back sell-out and standing room only crowds. The San Antonio games present another opportunity to showcase talented student-athletes and coaches on a global stage. "Hosting the first ever women's HBCU All-Star Game is special to us," Travis L. Williams, Founder and CEO of HBCU All-Stars LLCÂ said. "It's long overdue that female athletes receive visibility, greater equality, and coverage. There are currently no active HBCU players represented on an NBA or WNBA roster, and we hope to change that narrative very soon."
The HBCU All-Star Game Experience is a week-long festival that highlights prestigious HBCUs, black excellence and black culture. Events will kick off on Wednesday, April 2, and conclude the following Tuesday after the Championship game (April 8). The week of events may include but is not limited to an HBCU All-Stars College Admissions Fair, Community Fun Day, Tip-Off Welcome Reception, Awards Ceremony, and Social Justice & Civil Rights panel discussion.
