Charles Morris was selected the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Co-Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Morris had a big week in helping Alabama A&M to a 3-1 record, including two conference victories. The Pine Hill, Ala. native went 6-for-17 at the plate, with six RBI and four runs scored. He recorded three doubles and one homer, along with five walks in games against Oakwood and Mississippi Valley State.

On the mound, Morris was equally impressive, picking up a win in a 12-11 victory over Mississippi Valley State in the second game of the series. In the opener, Morris fanned two in earning his first save of the season.

Grambling State's Jaylyn Bennett and Texas Southern's Kelton Phillips were named co-hitters of the week. Eric Elliott, of Jackson State, picked up the SWAC's Pitcher of the Week honors, while Bethune-Cookman's Andrey Martinez shared the conference's newcomer of the week aware with Morris.

Alabama A&M steps back into Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play this weekend for a three-game series at Texas Southern. First pitch for the opener on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. from MacGregor Park.
