JACKSON, Miss. | The Alabama A&M women's tennis team (1-6, 1-0 SWAC) opened conference play with a 4-0 sweep of the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils on Thursday afternoon.

For the first time this season, AAMU claimed the doubles points after the pair of Sofia Sotelo Raya and Gabrielle Henderson picked up a bagel, defeating MVSU's Brooke Edyvane and Valerie Green 6-0. With a Devilette forfeiture on court three, the Bulldogs moved to the singles session with a 1-0 lead, though Valentine Abide Talaki and Yana Dhamija were on their way to what looked like a win, taking a 5-0 advantage on the opening court before their match was abandoned.

With Mississippi Valley already down a singles point due to a forfeit at sixth singles, the Bulldogs capitalized off a fast start to quickly claim another pair of bagels. In the first frame of each court, the Bulldogs grabbed a 6-0 victory.  Alicia Owegi won at second singles, defeating Schiks in straight sets. Within one point of the first victory of the season, Sotelo Raya dominated at fifth singles, sailing past MVSU's Tori Carter in another 6-0 decision.
