Box Score JACKSON, Miss. | The Alabama A&M women's tennis team opened the Southwestern Athletic Conference tennis pod with a 4-1 victory over the Southern University Jaguars.
The Jaguars claimed the first court during the doubles contest, but the Bulldogs battled for the point, picking up wins at the following two courts, 7-6(4) and 7-5 respectively.
Looking to capitalize on the doubles session, Valentine Abide Talaki quickly made the score 2-0 after defeating Kai Wince in 6-2, 6-1 straight sets at third singles. Alicia Owegi followed suit, picking up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Jessica Hess at No. 2 doubles. Needing just one point to clinch the win, Sofia Sotelo Raya defeated Shahd Habib 6-2 in the first set, and narrowly claimed a tiebreak, 7-6 (6). The remaining courts were in third sets at the time of abandonment.
