HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Laura Avila led the Alabama A&M University women's cross country team on Friday morning as the Bulldogs participated in the annual Southern Showcase at John Hunt Park.
Avila, the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Runner and Newcomer of the Week, placed 149th, with a time of 18:35.4, to pace the Bulldogs.
Sanyae Gibson was 258th, marking a time of 19:28.1, while
Brianna Samuels (19:32.0),
Minka Isom (19:38.0) and
Kayla Fluker (24:14.0) rounded out the individual scoring.
Alabama's Caren Kiplagat won the individual race, clocking a time of 16:18.8 as Janet Jepkemboi Amino placed second in 16:30.4.
Alabama A&M finished 38th as Louisville won the meet with 64 points. Mississippi State was second, with 90 points, followed by Kentucky (170).
Alabama A&M returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Michael Pretorius Invitational at Percy Warner Park in Nashville.
