BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University junior infielder Kali Austerman was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday afternoon.
 
Austerman batted .350 during five games last week. She went 7-for-20 at the plate, with three homers and two doubles. In addition, she drove in seven, scored six times and drew one walk. In the series finale to Bethune-Cookman, the Port Saint Joe, Fla. native went 4-for-5, with two homers and one double.
 
Prairie View A&M's Morgan Smith and Kayla Adams were selected the SWAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
 
Alabama A&M returns to Bulldog Field on Friday in a SWAC series opener against Jackson State. First pitch against the Tigers is slated for 2 p.m.
