BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University junior infielder/outfielder
Kali Austerman was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Softball Hitter of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Austerman helped Alabama A&M go 3-2 over the week, including a sweep of Mississippi Valley State. She batted .500, going 8-of-16 at the plate, with two extra base hits (home run and double). She drove in eight and scored six times, while going 1-for-1 in stolen base attempts. In the 11-10 come-from-behind win in the series opener against MVSU, the Port Saint Joe, Fla. native went 3-for-4, including a grand slam in the second inning.
Texas Southern's Kylie Wilson was selected the SWAC Pitcher of the Week, while Laila Clark (Southern) and Mia Gonzalez (Bethune-Cookman) were chosen Co-Newcomer of the Week.
Alabama A&M returns to action on Friday with the three-game SWAC series opener at Jackson State. First pitch against the Tigers is set for 5 p.m.
