Alabama A&M Slips Past Lady Charger Tennis

NORMAL – Lady Bulldog tennis earned their fourth win on the year with a 4-3 win over cross-town rival the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Chargers slip to 4-3 on the season with the setback.

The two teams played under Division I rules, and Alabama A&M captured the doubles point as it won 8-3 at the second position before winning 8-3 at the No. 1 match to secure the 1-0 lead going into singles.

The Maroon & White pushed the advantage out to 3-0 after winning at the three and two positions in singles play, but UAH grabbed its first point of the contest at the No. 4 singles position 6-1 and 6-3.

The match then came down to the Nos. 1 and 5 positions, as the Lady Chargers Jessica Groupierre fought valiantly in the No. 1 match but ultimately fell 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 to Denise Cherry to give the day to A&M.

The Lady Chargers did pick up another point to produce the 4-3 final as Alejandra Pacheco won 7-6 (3), 6-0 at the fifth spot over Quanda Jarrett.

The Lady Bulldogs will welcome Western Kentucky to a 1:00 p.m. match on “The Hill”.  The double header contest will serve as their home opener of the 2013 season.
