Taylor Wingo finished seventh, while teammate
Sanyae Gibson placed 11
th as the Bulldog women's cross country program claimed third at the 2023 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship on Monday morning at the Apalachee Regional Park.
Wingo, who received All-SWAC Second Team honors, just narrowly missed the sixth spot as she crossed the finish line on the 5K course in 20 minutes and 3 seconds. Gibson wasn't too far behind in 11
th at 20:52.8.
Tamijah Scriven crossed in 20:56.2 for 16
th, while
Aneisha Ingram was 30
th in 21:41.1.
De'Ajene Johnson rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs in 35
th, with a time of 21:53.7. Laila Gaynor came in 57
th and
Khalea Avery 63
rd.
Alcorn State's Stellah Kiptui won her second consecutive SWAC Championship, beating the field by more than a minute, with a time of 18:22.9.
Alabama A&M, which captured its best finish in school history, claimed third with 99 points as Florida A&M won the championship with 63 points, followed by Alabama State in second with 72 points.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff finished fourth with 110 points, followed by Alcorn State (122), Prairie View A&M (139), Texas Southern (158), Southern (184), Bethune-Cookman (244), Grambling State (249), Jackson State (270) and Mississippi Valley State (283).
