HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The Alabama A&M University women's basketball program was selected fourth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) predicted order of finish, the conference announced during SWAC Media Day on Tuesday.
Alabama A&M, which went 14-15 overall last season and 12-6 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play, reached the conference tournament quarterfinals, falling 62-55 to Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The Bulldogs garnered 200 points to earn the fourth spot, while Jackson State, the defending regular season champions, received 11 first-place votes and 267 points in being predicted to win the conference.
Southern, with five first-place votes, received 245 points and was tabbed second, while Arkansas-Pine Bluff, with 216 points, was named third.
Alabama State was selected fifth with 190 points, followed by Prairie View A&M (174), Bethune-Cookman (144), Grambling State (144) and Alcorn State (119). Florida A&M (79), Texas Southern (66) and Mississippi Valley State (44) rounded out the 12-team field.
Alabama A&M opens the season on Nov. 6 on the road against UAB.
