HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | Alabama A&M University head women's basketball coach Margaret Richards announced on Wednesday the release of the 2023-24 schedule, which features a matchup against an SEC opponent and trip to Miami to play in the FIU Christmas Tournament.
"I am excited for our preseason schedule because it gives us the opportunity to play some tough competition and get some of our young ladies home," Richards said. "We have some exciting in-state rivals that we are playing and I'm looking forward to those matchups as well.
"My goal was to prepare our ladies for our competitive aggressive conference schedule and tournament. We are also playing in a MTE tournament, which includes three games back-to-back and in order to win the conference championship that is what we would need to do. I look forward to growing as a team this preseason and I am excited to add our new pieces."
Alabama A&M, which went 14-15 overall last season and 12-6 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play, reached the conference tournament quarterfinals, falling 62-55 to Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The Bulldogs open the season with back-to-back road games, starting on Nov. 6 at UAB, followed by a trip to Fort Collins, Colo., to take on Colorado State.
Alabama A&M's home opener is on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. at the Event Center against Tennessee Tech, followed by a 5 p.m. contest against UAH on Nov. 21.
Back to the road on Nov. 26 with a trip to SEC foe Auburn, but AAMU concludes the first month of the season on Nov. 29 at the Event Center against North Alabama. Tip-off against the Lions is set for 11 a.m.
Alabama A&M takes a small break before returning to the court on Dec. 10 at home against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opponent South Carolina State.
The Bulldogs play their next four games on the road, starting on Dec. 14 at Kansas City, before playing three straight games at the FIU Christmas Tournament Dec. 18-Dec. 20 against Chicago State, host FIU and Texas State.
AAMU wraps up its non-conference schedule on Dec. 29 at home with a 2 p.m. game against Central Arkansas.
The Bulldogs open SWAC play on the road, beginning on Jan. 6 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff and on Jan. 8 at Mississippi Valley State.
The conference home slate begins on Jan. 13 with a 2 p.m. game against Alcorn State and at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 15 against Jackson State.
Alabama A&M and rival Alabama State will compete in the Bridge Builder Classic on Jan. 22 in Mobile, Ala.
The Bulldogs make the Texas road swing on Jan. 27 and Jan. 29 against Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M, respectively.
Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman make the trip to the Event Center Feb. 3 and Feb. 5, before back-to-back road games against Southern (Feb. 10) and Grambling State (Feb. 12).
Alabama A&M plays host to Mississippi Valley State on Feb. 17 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Feb. 19 and will conclude the month in Florida against Bethune-Cookman (Feb. 24) and Florida A&M (Feb. 26)
The final month of the regular season begins on March 2 at home against Alabama State. AAMU closes out the regular season March 7 and March 9 at home versus Grambling State and Southern.
The 2024 SWAC Women's Basketball Tournament begins March 13 and concludes March 16 in Birmingham, Ala.
