BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama A&M University junior guard Amiah Simmons was selected the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
 
Simmons, who has led the Bulldogs in scoring in 11 games this season, garnered the award after averaging 18.5 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game against FIU and Texas State. The Overland Park, Kan. native shot 55.2 percent (16-of-29) from the floor in a pair of losses.
 
Simmons poured in a season-high 23 points, on 9-of-16 shooting and 2-of-3 from the free throw line, along with three rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 63-52 loss to Texas State last Wednesday.
 
Southern's Aleighyah Fontenot was selected the SWAC Impact Player of the Week.
 
Alabama A&M (5-6) returns home on Friday against Central Arkansas. Tip-off against the Sugar Bears is set for 2 p.m. from the AAMU Event Center and streamed on Bulldogs All-Access.
