NASHVILLE, Tenn. | Laura Avila registered a top-15 finish on Friday morning as the Alabama A&M University women's cross country team placed fifth at the Belmont Opener.
Avila ran the 5000m Percy Warner Park course in 19:03.8 to finish 14
th in pace the Bulldogs.
Sanyae Gibson crossed the line in 19:30.0 to claim 19
th, and
Brianna Samuels finished 21
st in 19:49.7.
Neveah Carrizal placed 34
th in 21:39.8, while
Kayla Fluker (23:26.1) and
Sheila Chebet (24:38.5) rounded out the team.
The Bulldogs tallied 122 points to finish fifth, while Vanderbilt won the meet with 43 points. Belmont was second with 48 points, followed by Lipscomb (63) and Western Kentucky (74). Austin Peay finished sixth with 153 points and Tennessee State rounded out the field with 200 points.
Alabama A&M returns to action on Friday, Sept. 12 at John Hunt Park in the Southern Showcase.
