Alabama A&M 2021-22 Season In Review: Men’s Tennis

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – With the close of the 2021-22 campaign, the Alabama A&M Sports Information Office is producing a Season in Review for each of the program's 16 sports from the past year.
 
That series began with the fall season before progressing to the winter and spring campaigns. Each week reviews will be released on Mondays and Wednesdays until concluding with the final spring sport on Monday, July 18 and a Department Season in Review on Wednesday, July 20. Today we take a look back at the 2021-22 Men's Tennis season.

2021-22 Season in Review
  • Played a 19 match schedule that saw them defeat Mississippi Valley State (3/10, 4/22) twice and Prairie View (3/14).
  • Defeated OVC member Tennessee State (4/10) 5-2 while also facing No. 18 Middle Tennessee, SEC powerhouse Auburn, Samford, North Alabama, Jacksonville State and Troy in non-conference action.
  • Notched a straight 7-0 victory against MVSU while securing a pair of 6-0 scores in doubles and swept all single matches with 6-0, 6-0 scores.
  • The Bulldogs entered the SWAC Tournament as the No.4 seed and reached the semifinals with a 4-0 victory over the Delta Devils.

Individual Achievements/Honors
  • Senior Natiphat Mulada (Korat, Thailand) became just the second SWAC Player of the Year in the program's NCAA Division I history. He was also named to the All-SWAC First-Team for his performance.
  • Mulada won 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at position No. 3 against Samford (2/12) and defeated C-USA member Alabama-Birmingham (3/5) 6-3, 6-1. He delivered a 7-5, 7-5 win against North Alabama (3/28) while defeating Jackson State (4/2) 6-4, 7-5 and Tennessee State (4/10) 6-2, 6-3.
  • Freshman Matis Torres Ramis (Mallorca, Spain) earned a position on the Second-Team with a 6-6 overall record while going 4-0 in the league. His conference victories came in impressive fashion against Mississippi Valley State (6-0, 6-0), Alcorn (6-1, 6-1) Prairie View (6-3, 6-1) and Jackson State (6-1, 6-1).
  • Senior German Ruiz Crespo (Mollina, Spain) played in 18 matches and defeated Alcorn 6-1 and won 6-2 vs Prairie View while delivering a 6-0 victory alongside freshman Freddie Lawrence in doubles against MVSU to advance to the SWAC Tournament Semifinals.
  • Senior Rodrigo Arana Rios (Playa Del Carmen, Mexico) was a key contributor as A&M earned a spot in the SWAC Tournament.
  • Some of his best performances came against MVSU, winning 6-0, 6-0 in singles and 6-0 in doubles with  freshman Vence Ntcha, the pair also delivered a 6-4 victory  over Jackson State.
