Alabama A&M Athletics Story No. 8: Bowling and Men's Golf Net Honors Not Seen In Years

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – With the close of the 2021-22 campaign, the Alabama A&M Sports Information Office is counting down the Top-10 stories from the campaign throughout the summer. Today, we continue the No. 8 story of the season - Bowling and Men's Golf Net Honors Not Seen In Years.

Make sure to check www.AAMUSports.com every Friday to catch the latest release.

Story No. 8: Bowling and Men's Golf Net Honors Not Seen In Years
Every year A&M programs pull in any number of honors, usually notching consecutive years for those awards but even the best programs suffer the occasional downturn.

Such is the case with Bulldog bowling and men's golf, two programs that have a history of success at the national and conference level. Bowling went so far as to earn a national runner-up finish in 2006 while men's golf has had an individual SWAC Champion and NCAA Championships qualifier in 2011.

Both programs took steps to returning to those glory days in 2021-22 as they accomplished things not seen in at least seven years.

Junior Montaya Walton (Detroit, Mich.) delivered an impressive season on the lanes as she became the first bowler to earn All-SWAC honors since Nicole Kleutgen in 2015. She would pick up that honor with an impressive outing at the SWAC East Regional (2/6).

For men's golf, that step in the right direction would be headlined by freshman BK Kim (Won Ju, South Korea). Towards the end of a strong first collegiate campaign, Kim delivered at the SWAC Championships, finishing eighth to become just the fifth individual to earn All-SWAC honors.

It also marked the first time in eight years a Bulldog had achieved that feat, the last being Phillip Fitzgerald in 2014 during his freshman season.

While far from where they want to be, both men's golf and bowling have shown that they are headed in the right direction and have the pieces in place to restore the program's to their former glory in the very near future.
