Story No. 9: Baseball Delivers Strong Efforts In 2022 Campaign
AAMU kept building off a strong 2021 season by exhibiting key performances for the 2022 season that included defeating non-conference and C-USA member Alabama-Birmingham (3/5) with an 11-9 victory. Another few memorable wins for the Bulldogs was their 8-2 victory over ASUN member North Alabama and 13-12 win against LeMoyne-Owen.

That progress continued into Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play as AAMU delivered upset victories against the top four teams that qualified during the 2022 SWAC Tournament.

The Bulldogs notched the first of those against Florida A&M (4/23) with a 6-5 mark before upsetting defending league champion Jackson State (5/1) with a 9-7 decision. AAMU added to their winning record by capturing the series against 2021 SWAC Tournament Champions Jackson State with 8-3 (3/25) and 15-9 wins. Later in the season they would sweep Mississippi Valley State from May 7-8, recording 5-4, 5-0 and 10-5 victories.

They then upended Bethune Cookman (5/14)  by a narrow 5-4 decision before shocking eventual tournament champion and rival  Alabama State (5/21) with a 10-7 victory to close the season on Senior Day.
.
And it was far from just team accomplishments that got the Bulldogs on the board in 2022 as a number of individuals produced strong performances to earn awards the program had not seen in sometime.

Heading that group was  Senior Tim Dixon (Debary, Fla), who was named to the All- (SWAC) Second-Team. He delivered a strong campaign, starting all 49 games and finishing with 34 runs, six home runs, 11 doubles, four triples and 32 RBIs. His selection was the first since 2019 for the program.

Junior catcher Jared Tribett (Lumberton, Mississippi) finished the season with a whopping 10 homeruns which ranked him third in the league. He was named SWAC Hitter of the Week back on March, 30 after helping the Bulldogs win the series against JSU by compiling two home runs, a pair of runs and an impressive seven RBIs over the course of three days.

Senior pitcher Jose Figueroa (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) joined Tribett to help the Bulldogs sweep the weekly honors by being named Pitcher of the Week on 3/30 for his stellar performance. He started and threw seven innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run, while striking out an impressive seven batters to help the Bulldogs secure their 8-3 victory against the Tigers.

Senior pitcher Josue Torres (Cidra, Puerto Rico) earned the Bulldogs final weekly honor of the season as he was named Pitcher of the Week on May, 11. Torres keyed the Bulldogs 5-0 victory against MVSU (5/7)  as he threw a complete game shutout, scattering five hits while striking out six. Another few memorable wins for AAMU was their 8-2 victory over ASUN member North Alabama and 13-12 win against LeMoyne-Owen.

The Bulldogs pulled off impressive wins while acquiring SWAC honors that led to a strong finish for the 2022 season that will progress into the new upcoming year.
