Alabama A&M 2020-21 Season in Review: Women’s Outdoor Track & Field

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – With the close of the 2020-21 campaign, the Alabama A&M Sports Information Office is producing a Season in Review for each of the program's 14 sports that competed during the year.

That series will begin with the fall season before progressing to the winter and spring campaigns. Each week reviews will be released on Mondays and Wednesdays until concluding with the final spring sport on Wednesday, July 28 and a Department Season in Review on Monday, August 2.

Today we take a look back at the 2020-21 Women's Outdoor Track & Field season.

2020-21 Season in Review

Competed in seven meets on the season.
Included the Montevallo Falcon Classic, Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays, UAB Spring Invitational, Strawberry Relays, N.C. A&T Aggie Classic, SWAC Outdoor Championships and the NCAA Division I East Preliminary.

Individual Achievements/Honors

Danice Loney notched second straight SWAC pole vault championship as part of 11 All-SWAC honors by the Bulldogs. Akia Slaughter earned three of those selections, placing second in 100-meters and third in both the 200-meters and 4x100 relay. Terion Davis, Fabiona Jackson-Jenkins, Danielle Chambers and Diamond Griffin finished second in the 4x400.
Slaughter earned just the second women's outdoor berth in the NCAA Division I East Preliminaries since at least 2010, qualifying in the 100- and 200-meters.
A&M notched five SWAC weekly honors, with Slaughter earning four on the track side and Loney one in field.
Posted six first place finishes on the year with Loney accounting for three of them, all in the pole vault. Slaughter had a pair at the season-opening Montevallo Falcon Classic (3/20), coming in 1-of-49 in the 200-meters (24.76) and 1-of-42 in the 100-meters (12.34). Terion Davis had the other, going 1-of-22 in the 400-meters (55.75) at the Strawberry Relays (4/10).
