About The Game
If you are looking for offense, this is the series for you. If you are looking for defense … avert your eyes. Either way its always entertaining when these two get together.
In the 18 meetings in the program's NCAA Division I history, just two have seen Alabama A&M and Texas Southern combine for fewer than 34 points – and usually
a lot more than that. This game will be a rematch of the crown jewel of that offensive onslaught as the Bulldogs pulled out a thrilling come-from-behind 52-49 victory on November 13 in Houston.
In addition to what should be a showdown between two teams that like to light up the scoreboard, it will also be the season finale for both teams. For A&M that will mean the University, Department and fans getting to recognize the program's seniors on Senior Day 2022.
It will also be the last tune up before a potential berth in the 2022 SWAC Championship Game which will be held on December 6 at the site of the team with the better league record.
Series History vs. Texas Southern
Dating back to September 29, 2001, the Bulldogs hold
a commanding 14-4 advantage over Texas Southern during their DI era.
During that time A&M has averaged 30.1 points per game and notched a decimating 63-0 victory on October 4, 2003, marking the most points scored in a game between the teams. It was also part of a four-game win streak to open the series from September 29, 2001 through October 2, 2004.
That stretch is the longest by either team and equals the Bulldog's current four straight wins dating from a 30-13 victory on September 23, 2017. TSU has never won more than one game at a time in the series, notching four solo victories.
A&M's current four straight wins include an incredible 52-49 victory last season, a 35-28 overtime victory in Huntsville on October 5, 2019, a 42-21 win in Houston on October 6, 2018 and that 30-13 decision at Louis Crews Stadium in 2017.
Series Flashback
With these teams always seeming to go the extra mile with tremendous amounts of offense (look away if you're a fan of defense) we'll do the same with not one, not two but three in the Series Flashback.
We'll start that all the way back on October 14, 2011 as a world-wide audience saw the Bulldogs come back to
notch a 24-21 victory in a game covered by ESPNU.
Fast forward eight years to the start of the last two meetings and they end up being of a similar vein. On October 5, 2019 A&M
surged back for a tremendous 35-28 overtime win at Louis Crews.
The next meeting wouldn't come for two years as a result of the pandemic but it would be worth the wait. In a game that was truly defense optional, Alabama A&M rallied on multiple occasions and benefited from a missed last second field goal to come away with a
thrilling 52-49 decision in Houston.
