Carlos Mathews, a native and resident of Huntsville, Ala., excelled at AAMU in track and field during 1992-95 in the long jump and the 100 meters. He received All-SIAC honors three out of the four years he competed, the only long jumper to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championship. Mathews moved into the Universities Top 10 All-Time Performances list. He was the only male athlete to be part of four consecutive conference team titles.  Mathews held the number two All-Time Performance in the indoor long jump, number five All-Time Performance in the outdoor long jump and in the Top 10 Performances in the 100 meters. As of 2012, Mathews still holds the Top 10 Performances in the long jump and 100 meters. Mathews received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from AAMU and currently works as a software engineer with Future Research Corporation.
